Today, I’m matching the donation from iCG Chairman Mike Padgham and adding an additional £500 contribution to the ‘Vote for Social Care’ campaign fund.
The photograph is of my father celebrating at his last trip to Spain (with me and my mother) at the fine age of 80. I haven’t attached another photo of my dad all battered and bruised following a recent fall. He falls regularly – he has a brain tumour and consequently neurological issues affect his walking. Between my mother, my sister, two brothers, various grandchildren and a cousin, we manage to provide enough support to keep him going at home.
Unfortunately, there are no home care providers where he lives, as it’s too expensive to provide care for that particular rural community. For me, this is a real life and a lived experience of why we need reform to our social care system, so that folks, like my father, can make the most of their independence. My father certainly is stubborn about that!
