MEET THE TEAM

The core iCG team is made up of a small group of experienced individuals backed up by a board of directors with a wealth of knowledge in and out of the care sector.

MIKE PADGHAM

Chair

Our Chair, Mike Padgham is a leading and influential figure in social care, having worked in the sector for more than 35 years.

 
Mike is managing director of the growing, family-owned and award-winning Saint Cecilia’s Care Group in North Yorkshire.


Mike was a founding member of the iCG and has been its chair since its inception 22 years ago. It has become a national voice for social care, campaigning in the media to get a fairer deal for the sector.


Mike was also Chair of the Homecare Association for 10 years. He recently became a Board member of the influential Care Association Alliance.

JOHN PATTINSON

CEO

Immediately before joining iCG, John worked in the supported living segment of the social care market as a Chief Development Officer. He joined the Independent Care Group originally as the operational director, taking up the role of Chief Executive Officer over a year ago.  

 

John has a varied career from small volume manufacturing, nursing, property development and senior health service management. He has considerable public service experience at a senior level, introducing Mental Health First Aid in England with some Department of Health & Social Care funding (on the proviso the initiative would spin out as a social enterprise). It is still going to this day.

 

John has an interest in system improvement and continuously seeks to place iCG as a trusted partner in the local system for health and social care.

BRIAN JOHNSON

Marketing Executive

Brian, based near Skipton, has been freelance for over 30 years, providing design and marketing

support to a range of clients both large and small.

He worked closely with the marketing department of leading bed brand Sealy for over 15 years as ‘brand guardian’, creating their brochures, directing all product photography and designing trade and national press adverts. He also developed promotional and POS materials and produced all Sealy’s in-store and online video content

.

Other clients over the years have included Puma Sportswear, Rowntrees, M&S, Silentnight Beds (for whom he designed the Hippo &

Duck logo and award-winning striped pyjama lorries), as well as local, Yorkshire-based brewery Naylor’s and estate agents Wilman

& Wilman.

NICHOLA GREENWOOD

Social Care Workforce Lead

Nichola has over 35 years experience of working within in the NHS in a variety of roles across primary, secondary care and in former health authorities.

​

Over the last three years, Nichola has been the Social Care Workforce Lead across York and North Yorkshire, using her knowledge and links across the system to identify opportunities to provide workforce support to the social care sector. 

​

Nichola has extensive experience of workforce related issues, particularly recruitment and retention, including international recruitment. She has lead on the development of the nursing preceptorship framework and the Care Connected Workforce Support Hub which has recently become available to care providers across York and North Yorkshire.

The board members are all industry professionals who work on a voluntary basis to provide knowledge and advice to drive iCG forward.

JILL BAKER

Jill is an experienced BD, marketing and events professional with extensive skills gained from a variety of environments. Having worked for Hempsons, leading health and social care and charity lawyers, for over 15 years Jill has a good knowledge of the sector and the challenges it faces. Hempsons are a longstanding corporate partner of the ICG which gives Jill a unique perspective and enables her to not only assist the board with her strategic and practical marketing expertise, but also to represent the interests of the other corporate partners on the board.

AARON
PADGHAM

Aaron is a ICAEW Chartered Accountant and has been a Director at Saint Cecilia’s Care Group since 2017, helping the family-owned business expand beyond its roots in Scarborough by opening additional care homes in Pickering and Whitby. His prior experience lies in the corporate finance world, having trained with professional services firm Deloitte.
Since joining the board, Aaron has represented the ICG on behalf of providers in numerous meetings with local authorities, fighting for better terms and conditions for providers.

PAUL McCAY

Paul has held various positions across social care, housing and local authority organisations. His first role in 1997 was as part of a team managing direct access hostels and rough sleeper services. He has since held roles across statutory homeless provision, sheltered housing, forensic mental health registered services, as well as developing and managing accessible housing whilst running a small 2,000 home registered social landlord. Since 2013 he has been the CEO of The Wilf Ward Family Trust, a large regional charity providing registered care and supported accommodation services (across 73 different sites) to individuals living with a learning disability or profound and multiple learning disabilities.

CLAIRE
BARWICK

Having worked in the Health and Social Care sector for over 30 years, Claire now works at Coventry University Scarborough as Head of Curriculum for Health Education and Nursing, creating educational opportunities that support the local workforce and ensuring our graduates remain local to Scarborough. Claire is bringing a wealth of experience not only of health and care but also the education and training opportunities and influences that could support the sector in the future.

SUE
CAWTHRAY

Sue has worked within the elderly social care sector for over 28 years including hands-on support and care, business management and strategic planning, marketing and fundraising and specialising in Nutrition, Hydration and Dementia.    

 

She has been the Chief Executive of Harrogate Neighbours Housing Association for 19 years supporting older people in the care and Extra Care Sector and the Meals on Wheels Service and received the Queens Award for Volunteers for her food service in June 2020. She was a member of the National Association of Care Catering holding various roles including National Chair in 2007/8 and then 2019/2023. I currently sit on the Public Sector Catering Alliance, am a trustee of Holbeck Together – a neighbourhood network organisation and is a Member of the Institute of Hospitality.  

 

Sue's expertise includes residential care, domiciliary care, extra care, day care and running a meals on wheels service. She sits on various networking and steering groups and actively seeks to support, drive, direct and raise the profile of social care and the issues faced on a daily basis.

ELIZABETH
HANCOCK

Elizabeth has been the nominated individual since 2002 and the registered provider for Fulford Nursing Home (the last family-run nursing home in York) since 2023.

 

Elizabeth understands the complex nature of managing, maintaining and meeting requirements for a stand-alone home within a complicated health and social care landscape, whilst looking forward, remaining relevant for the market and working closely with all stakeholders.

 

She has passion to share her knowledge and experience of care home management, particularly with smaller providers. Contributing to iCG enables her to offer support and encouragement to others and  be involved in research into the care sector.

MICHAEL
HOLLINS

Michael started out as a Lloyds Broker but quickly bored. He then entered RMA Sandhurst and spent some years in the army before going to Hotel School and working in the UK and France.After working for a restaurant group in London he ended up running a hotel business owned by his family.

 

For the past 15 years Michael has run a homecare business in North Yorkshire.

 

He has also been a governor and trustee of Ripon Cathedral Choir School and has volunteered with a number of charities over the years.

ANDREW
LUCKETT

Andrew the Managing Director of New Concept Care & Nursing and has worked within the company for over 20 years. There have been a lot of changes in health and social care over the years but, he's proud to say that NCCN has always been a leader in the field.

​

The company was started by his Mother, Mary who was a Nurse. She is retired now but the values and philosophy that she started the business with are still strong in the Management team’s minds. Andrew joined the company after completing a degree in Business Management at Newcastle and then a Post Grad Diploma in HR. He helped with their first major acquisition – Jays Home Care in Pocklington, in 2002 – which still has some staff who transferred from Jays working with NCCN today.

NEIL
FRANKLIN

Neil owns Moorview Care, a supported living provider for people with a learning disability and SLPC, a property development business creating bespoke accommodation that meets the needs of people with a learning disability or complex needs.

 

He has a background in finance and leading businesses across multiple sectors. This broad range of experience helps to reframe issues within the social care sector and seek positive solutions to address the desperate need for government investment and total reform. Technology provides many opportunities for efficiency gains and improvement in quality. Neil is focused on creating innovative new digital solutions for a fraction of the cost of other care software providers.

SAMANTHA
HARRISON

Samantha trained as a Registered Nurse in 1990 and worked at St James's and LGI in Leeds before returning to university and training as a District Nurse.

Working as a District Nurse in Harrogate, Samantha developed her role further as a trainer of District Nurses and Community Practice Tutor for the university. She moved into Health and Social Care as Director and Nominated Individual of Continued Care, a family-run and established home care business and social day club provider in Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon, and Thirsk. The company has been providing care and support to the local communities for over 30 years. Interests remain in staff training and education and charity fundraising.

LAURENCE
HOLLANDO

Now retired but with almost 40 years social care experience in Local Authorities, Health Organisations and voluntary organisations, Larry has been a Director of the ICG for a number of years. he was previously CEO of Avalon Group, located in Harrogate. 

 

For his sins, Larry supports Crystal Palace, the local football team in his youth!

JOHN
RUSSELL

John is a Director and Operations Manager at the Holt Retirement Home in Hutton Buscel, near Scarborough.

​

Johns’ role of operations manager encompasses all aspects of running the home, including all matters HR related, Health and Safety, Policy even down to all the ordering. He even does some of the gardening when time allows!

​

Before joining the Holt, and care sector, John spent over a decade in the insurance industry primarily dealing with the Bloodstock Industry and covering properties and liabilities for racing yards and stud farms as well as the horses themselves for the owners. He also spent 16 seasons as an amateur jump jockey.
