MEET THE TEAM

The core iCG team is made up of a small group of experienced individuals backed up by a board of directors with a wealth of knowledge in and out of the care sector.

MIKE PADGHAM

Chair

Our Chair, Mike Padgham is a leading and influential figure in social care, having worked in the sector for more than 35 years.

 
Mike is managing director of the growing, family-owned and award-winning Saint Cecilia’s Care Group in North Yorkshire.


Mike was a founding member of the iCG and has been its chair since its inception 22 years ago. It has become a national voice for social care, campaigning in the media to get a fairer deal for the sector.


Mike was also Chair of the Homecare Association for 10 years. He recently became a Board member of the influential Care Association Alliance.

JOHN PATTINSON

CEO

Immediately before joining iCG, John worked in the supported living segment of the social care market as a Chief Development Officer. He joined the Independent Care Group originally as the operational director, taking up the role of Chief Executive Officer over a year ago.  

 

John has a varied career from small volume manufacturing, nursing, property development and senior health service management. He has considerable public service experience at a senior level, introducing Mental Health First Aid in England with some Department of Health & Social Care funding (on the proviso the initiative would spin out as a social enterprise). It is still going to this day.

 

John has an interest in system improvement and continuously seeks to place iCG as a trusted partner in the local system for health and social care.

The board members are all industry professionals who work on a voluntary basis to provide knowledge and advice to drive iCG forward.

AARON
PADGHAM

Aaron is a ICAEW Chartered Accountant and has been a Director at Saint Cecilia’s Care Group since 2017, helping the family-owned business expand beyond its roots in Scarborough by opening additional care homes in Pickering and Whitby. His prior experience lies in the corporate finance world, having trained with professional services firm Deloitte.
Since joining the board, Aaron has represented the ICG on behalf of providers in numerous meetings with local authorities, fighting for better terms and conditions for providers.

PAUL
McCAY

Paul has held various positions across social care, housing and local authority organisations. His first role in 1997 was as part of a team managing direct access hostels and rough sleeper services. He has since held roles across statutory homeless provision, sheltered housing, forensic mental health registered services, as well as developing and managing accessible housing whilst running a small 2,000 home registered social landlord. Since 2013 he has been the CEO of The Wilf Ward Family Trust, a large regional charity providing registered care and supported accommodation services (across 73 different sites) to individuals living with a learning disability or profound and multiple learning disabilities.

NEIL
FRANKLIN

Neil owns Moorview Care, a supported living provider for people with a learning disability and SLPC, a property development business creating bespoke accommodation that meets the needs of people with a learning disability or complex needs.

​

He has a background in finance and leading businesses across multiple sectors. This broad range of experience helps to reframe issues within the social care sector and seek positive solutions to address the desperate need for government investment and total reform. Technology provides many opportunities for efficiency gains and improvement in quality. Neil is focused on creating innovative new digital solutions for a fraction of the cost of other care software providers.

SUE
CAWTHRAY

Sue has worked within the elderly social care sector for over 28 years including hands-on support and care, business management and strategic planning, marketing and fundraising and specialising in Nutrition, Hydration and Dementia.    

 

She has been the Chief Executive of Harrogate Neighbours Housing Association for 19 years supporting older people in the care and Extra Care Sector and the Meals on Wheels Service and received the Queens Award for Volunteers for her food service in June 2020. She was a member of the National Association of Care Catering holding various roles including National Chair in 2007/8 and then 2019/2023. I currently sit on the Public Sector Catering Alliance, am a trustee of Holbeck Together – a neighbourhood network organisation and is a Member of the Institute of Hospitality.  

 

Sue's expertise includes residential care, domiciliary care, extra care, day care and running a meals on wheels service. She sits on various networking and steering groups and actively seeks to support, drive, direct and raise the profile of social care and the issues faced on a daily basis.

MICHAEL
HOLLINS

Michael started out as a Lloyds Broker but quickly bored. He then entered RMA Sandhurst and spent some years in the army before going to Hotel School and working in the UK and France.After working for a restaurant group in London he ended up running a hotel business owned by his family.

 

For the past 15 years Michael has run a homecare business in North Yorkshire.

 

He has also been a governor and trustee of Ripon Cathedral Choir School and has volunteered with a number of charities over the years.

LAURENCE
HOLLANDO

Now retired but with almost 40 years social care experience in Local Authorities, Health Organisations and voluntary organisations, Larry has been a Director of the ICG for a number of years. he was previously CEO of Avalon Group, located in Harrogate. 

 

For his sins, Larry supports Crystal Palace, the local football team in his youth!
